Summer School Program Overview
The BOCES Regional Academic Summer School (BRASS) is designed for middle and high school students in Allegany and Cattaraugus counties.
Participating schools may enroll students in Math, English, Social Studies, Science, Driver Education, and other courses available in the Course Catalog.
Districts may also register students for the August Regents Exams.

Dates
Regional Academic Summer School: July 10- August 15, 2023; Monday-Thursday; (no classes on Friday)
Class Times
Period 1 8:00-9:55am
Period 2 10:00-11:55am
Registration
Registrations for student enrollment will take place June 1 - 30, 2023. Registrations must be made entered in the Summer School Student Information System by administration in a participating school district in Cattaraugus or Allegany Counties.
It is important to note, not all school districts participate in this program. CA BOCES cannot accept registrations from parents. Parents must contact their local school district for registration of students.

BOCES Commitment
CA BOCES Summer School personnel are committed to providing a safe and orderly school environment where students may receive and CA BOCES personnel may deliver quality educational services without disruption or interference.
Responsible behavior by students, teachers, CA BOCES personnel, parents, and visitors is essential to achieving this goal.

Attendance Requirement

Students are encouraged to attend Summer School every day in order to achieve course credit and/or content preparation for Regents Exams.

Parents and home school districts will be notified each day a student is absent.

If a student misses 3 classes, the home district will be contacted and written permission from that Administration will be required to permit re-entry into the program.

Tardiness/Early Departures: (15 or more minutes missed per class); three tardy/early release = 1 absence
Student Conduct

Students are expected to act respectful and be prepared for class.

Students are expected to adhere to all classroom rules, building regulations and CA BOCES Summer School policies.

Students are expected to wear appropriate clothing that is non-offensive, revealing and/or disruptive. Any student in violation will be asked to modify their appearance.

Public displays of affection on school grounds are not permitted.

Disruptive and/or insubordinate behavior may result in removal from class, or removal from the program, depending on the severity of the act.

Bullying of a student by another student is strictly prohibited on school property, in school buildings, and/or on school buses. Any infraction will result in a written referral to the Summer School Dignity Act Coordinator which may result in removal of the program.

Possession of cigarettes, chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes; smoking use of alcohol or controlled substances on school grounds is not permitted, and any violation will result in removal of the program.

Fighting or possession of a weapon of any kind will result in removal of the program.

Vandalism of school property will not be tolerated and will result in removal of the program.

Personal property is the responsibility of the student. We will not be liable in cases of loss or theft.

Cell phone use is permitted outside of class.
Grading and Course Credit

Student grades will be based on completion of assignments, quizzes, tests, and class participation.

Course credits are awarded by the home district, based on the student's home district board policy and the recommendation of the Summer School Principal.
August Regents Examinations

Exams are scheduled for August 16 & 17. All Exams are scheduled in accordance with the New York State Education Department’s Regents Exam Schedule. Students must pre-register to take Regents exams with CA BOCES by July 13, 2023.

Students are required to provide photo ID for admittance to an exam site, per NYSED regulations.
