Driver Education
CA BOCES Driver’s Education programs operate from the home school district. Instructors and guidance counselors of each participating district determine the session dates, times and driving schedules.
Students must be sixteen (16) years of age on or before the first day of class (lecture or behind-the-wheel) and hold a NYS Driver’s permit.
A student must complete at least 24 hours of lecture instruction and 24 hours of behind-the wheel instruction within an approved DTSE program, and under the direct supervision of an appropriately
credentialed DTSE teacher/instructor in order to be eligible to receive an MV- 285 course completion certificate.
Dates
Driver Education Courses begin on July 1, 2023, with varying class times. See your Driver Education Instructor for exact times and dates.
Registration
Registrations for student enrollment will take place June 1 - 30, 2023. Registrations must be made entered in the Summer School Student Information System by administration in a participating school district in Cattaraugus or Allegany Counties.
It is important to note, not all school districts participate in this program. CA BOCES cannot accept registrations from parents. Parents must contact their local school district for registration of students.
Locations
Locations will vary depending on location. The local school district will know the location for students in each school.
Student Absences
Students who miss a lecture class must make up lecture time. Students who miss driving time must make up the driving time. Students cannot do an assignment as a “make up” for an absence.
Students may only do a maximum of 90 minutes of in-car observation/driving per day.
